Confederation of Resident Welfare Association: Apex Body of RWAs to Strive for Reforms in the Educat

At the Executive Committee Meeting of the Confederation of Resident Welfare Associations (CoRWA), held on 7 December 2024 at New Delhi, the newly elected body of 40 members under the leadership of the new President Col. Tejendrapal Tyagi, Vir Chakra, decided that in the next two years CoRWA should try to bring reforms in the education and health sectors. The state federations under its umbrella should work for bringing down the enormous cost in the primary and secondary education, in addition to working towards eradicating the corrupt practices in corporate hospitals. Notable observations of the EC of CoRWA in this regard have been detailed here.

Education: The so-called private public schools of India have become money-making shops. Parents are exhausted in educating a child. In most schools, education is devoid of values and the child is not properly trained in any expertise. Books of even first and second standards have been made expensive by Rs 5,000 or so. Therefore, CoRWA, along with the Parents Association, will organize events throughout the year 2025 for the course corrections in running of educational institutions.

Health: The ill effect of the environment is the main reason for degrading health of the society. Air pollution is so dangerous that it will weaken the growing children. We are breathing in air that is more than 50 times more polluted than the safe limit of air pollution. Hence, various programmes are to be organized for realizing air and water pollution control by CoRWA in 2025.

Several sub-committees were constituted by Col. T P Tyagi, President and Sri B T Srinivasan, Secretary General, CoRWA, to work on the two-stated factos, taking members from federations of different states. The State Federation leaders are requested to pursue with the education and health departments in their respective states.

Continued Efforts of the CoRWA

Apart from this chief agenda, CoRWA would continue its efforts in:

Involving RWAs in local governance

Legal recognition for RWAs

Sustainable urban environment by improving the living standards in colonies

CoRWA, the Apex Body of RWAs in the country was established in 2012 at Hyderabad, Telangana by Dr Rao VB J Chelikani, the Founder Father of the Organisation. During the last 12 years, it has grown by leaps and bounds and right now there are State Federations of CoRWA in many states like Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. All these State Federations have made significant achievements in different aspects of RWA Mission, such as:  WAs involvement in local governance, RWAs in disaster management like floods and landslides, protection of natural habitat and heritage, fight against encroachment of lakes and footpaths, rainwater harvesting, air pollution, disposal of waste in cities, greenery development, disposal, control and management of plastic waste, and real-estate regulation (RERA).

The State RWA Federations have received several national awards during the last 8 years, the latest being the Water Transversality Global (WTG) Award received by the Andhra Pradesh Federation of RWAs (APFERWAS), Visakhapatnam, at the International Conference on Deciphering Transversality of Water–Energy–Environment Nexus’ held in New Delhi on 5–6 December 2024. This Conference was organized by the India Water Foundation (IWF), New Delhi.

CoRWA organizes National Conferences (NCRWAs) every year, with focal themes on the mentioned subjects, the latest being the 11th NCRWA, held by UFERWAS, on 9–10 November 2024 in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Eleventh National Conference of RWAs (NCRWA) was held by UFERWAS in Hyderabad, Telangana on 9–10 November 2024. During the two-day event there were important discussions on the focal theme ‘Waste Disposal’ and also on several sub-themes including the following:

RWAs’ Participation in Local Governance

RWAs’ Commitment in Climate Change

Security, Cyber-crimes and Drugs Menace

Women Participation in RWA Mission

The National Status Report was also released on the occasion. #
