World Snake Day, observed on July 16, highlighted the ecological importance of India's diverse snake fauna. Home to more than 300 snake species, India supports a remarkable range of reptiles that play a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance through rodent control and food-web regulation. Conservationists used the occasion to raise awareness about habitat loss, illegal wildlife trade, and misconceptions surrounding snakes. Species such as the King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, Russell's Viper, and Common Krait were showcased to promote scientific understanding and encourage coexistence between people and wildlife.
