Robin Hood Army: Undertaking Crusade against Hunger | |
Robin Hood Army (RHA) has been helping in eliminating hunger from the world for the last 8 years and has served more than 100 million meals to the less fortunate sections of the society… all with zero funds! Yes, we’ll tell you how. Globally, more than 800 million people have been affected by hunger—people in many parts of the world still don’t have access to nutritious meals. This is where the RHA steps in, ensuring that no one should go to sleep hungry, anywhere in the world. Started in 2014 by serving 150 meals in Delhi, RHA has now reached a milestone of bringing smiles to 120 million people across 13 countries in 2023. These past 8 years have been a journey filled with spreading joy and receiving an abundance of blessings and love. In addition to serving meals, RHA continues to work on several initiatives that have the potential to positively affect people’s lives. It is also a case study for students of Harvard’s full-time MBA programme. What is the Robin Hood Army? The Robin Hood Army is a volunteer-based, zero-funds organization that works to get surplus food from restaurants and the community to serve less fortunate people. Our “Robins” are largely students, young working professionals and senior citizens—everyone does this in their free time. The less fortunate sections of society RHA serves include homeless families, orphanages, patients from public hospitals, and old age homes. Currently, RHA has tied up with multiple restaurants across the 400 cities that provide them with food. The organization does not accept monetary donations and only distributes the food or donations in kind that it receives from its restaurant partners and donors. The Robin Hood Army, wearing green T-shirts, applies the following principles to further its cause: Spread awareness of its activities through social media to promote the idea of self-sustained communities. Tie-ups and associations with restaurants/food joints/corporates to provide food in large numbers to the less fortunate communities. Regularly introduce new volunteers into the system to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the less fortunate. Through this process, RHA aims to inspire a community to contribute their time and support to those who are most in need. How does RHA Operate as a Zero Funds Organization? The vision is simple—eradicate global hunger and use food as the medium to bring out the best of humanity. Robins collect excess food from gatherings, events, and other restaurants. The collected food is then provided to the underprivileged people living in the neighbourhood. Robin Hood Academy In many locations, RHA also operates an academy called “Robin Hood Academy,” where they teach street kids on the weekends and assist them in enrolling in classes. They use a decentralized organizational structure, and WhatsApp is mostly used for communication throughout its operations. They don’t have an office or full-time staff; instead, the volunteers, known as “Robins,” work when they have free time. What has RHA been upto Lately? To celebrate India’s 75th Independence Day, they undertook a special initiative known as Mission 75. It is a national effort, where they brought together civic society, influencers, media houses and corporates on August 15, to meet a two-pronged objective—feeding the 75 lakh meals across the country and providing 75 marginalized citizens in each city with access to opportunities that have potential to transform their lives. Their partner ABP Network has played a pivotal role in helping spread the word. How Can You Help? Alone, our individual efforts can only achieve a limited impact, but when we come together, we have the power to bring about real change. RHA constantly seeks more individuals to join them in the battle against hunger. # You can also join the initiative as a volunteer or food donor by sending a “Hi” on WhatsApp to +91 8971966164. |
