Michael Bloomberg Commits $590 Million to Climate and Nature Initiatives

Philanthropist and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg announced a $590 million environmental funding package to support renewable energy expansion, ocean conservation and air-pollution reduction. Nearly half of the funding will strengthen renewable-energy industry groups in developing economies, helping them build technical expertise and advocate for supportive policies. Climate experts welcomed the initiative, noting that many emerging economies still face institutional barriers despite renewable energy becoming increasingly cost-competitive. The funding comes at a time when climate finance remains a major issue in international environmental negotiations.
