India's Wind Sector Records Historic Expansion

On the occasion of Global Wind Day, government data showed that India added a record 6.05 GW of wind power capacity during 2025–26, the highest annual addition in the country's history. India's installed wind capacity has now reached more than 56 GW, making it the world's fourth-largest wind power market. Officials noted that nearly 45 per cent of wind generation occurs during peak demand hours, complementing solar power and improving grid reliability. The achievement reflects growing investment in renewable energy and strengthens India's position as a major player in the global clean-energy transition.
