| NTPC Invests ₹5,000 Crore in Battery Storage | |
|
State-run NTPC has begun installing 5 GWh of battery energy storage systems at its thermal power stations, with an investment of nearly ₹5,000 crore. The initiative aims to store excess solar and wind power that would otherwise be wasted during periods of low demand. By integrating battery systems with existing coal-fired plants, NTPC hopes to improve grid stability and facilitate greater renewable-energy penetration. The move is seen as a major step towards addressing one of the biggest challenges in clean energy—intermittency. Experts say large-scale storage will become increasingly important as India's renewable energy share continues to grow. Source: The Economic Times, June 18, 2026 |
