Trichy Corporation plans to integrate internet of things (IoT)-enabled devices and upgrade all 38 micro-compost centres (MCCs) and primary waste collection points across the city, to streamline and enhance daily waste management practices. The local body will upgrade the MCCs at INR 2.2 crore. Using real-time monitoring devices, the corporation will evaluate the efficiency of each MCC and waste collection truck in handling, segregating, and recycling waste. The integrated command control centre (ICCC) in the main office of the local body will receive live inputs about waste collection trucks engaged and the number of trips made to deposit the waste in MCCs. Autonomous weighing system, live indicators with visual and audible alerts, and telemetry devices (using Wifi) will weigh the incoming waste, log the entry and exit time of the waste collection trucks to scale their performance, and prevent idling time.
