Coffee may get pricier owing to dwindling number of bees. If immediate action is not taken to restore bee populations, state’s coffee production could face serious crisis, say experts. Karnataka’s coffee heartland, where acres of plantations once thrived with the buzz of pollinators, farmers are now witnessing an alarming decline in honeybee populations. The tiny creatures play a vital role in pollinating coffee flowers, directly impacting yield and quality. Rajappa D, an agricultural expert, highlighted that climate change, deforestation for resorts and homestays, and excessive pesticide use are causing a decline in bee populations, leading to a significant impact on coffee harvests.
