The share of renewables except hydropower in the country’s total electricity generation rose to 12.1 per cent in FY24 from 6 per cent in FY15, according to a government report released recently. The industrial sector consumed the most electricity, followed by the domestic sector, agriculture, and commercial sectors. Despite energy imports rising, coal remained the primary energy source. The industrial sector was the largest consumer of electricity in FY24, accounting for 42 per cent of total consumption, followed by the domestic sector at 24 per cent, agriculture at 17 per cent, and commercial sectors at 8 per cent.
