Drawing from personal memories and everyday practices, Sankalpa Satapathy reflects on a time when humans shared an instinctive relationship with nature, particularly within Indian cultural traditions. It shows how philosophy, religion, folklore, and daily rituals once recognized the interconnectedness of all living beings. Set against this is the contemporary urban reality, where fastpaced living, consumerism, and the commodification of nature have led to growing alienation. This widening rupture has serious consequences—from ecological damage and climate change to displacement and social conflict. The piece argues that uncritical ideas of "development" threaten humanity itself and calls for urgent policy action and a renewed ethical responsibility towards the natural world.
