Social Entrepreneurs:Plant a tree, Plant Hope!

Sula Vineyards has taken another step to reduce the effect of global warming and deforestation by planting over 6000 saplings in the Vasali mountain forest area near Savargaon Village. This is a part of Sula’s drive to plant 8000 saplings in 2020 in Nashik area. Around 2000 more saplings will be planted in Dindori by the winery that has most of its farms in the area.

These saplings included many native species, such as neem, arjun, etc.  The brand not only planted the saplings but has also willingly undertaken the responsibility of digging pits, fencing of the entire area, and ensuring the safety of the plants for three years till they grow into self-sustainable trees. The plantation was done following all the social distancing norms and safety protocols. Sustainable practices such as mass plantations, use of solar energy, water harvesting and community service are at the heart of the organization’s initiatives. Sula Vineyards plays an active role in Nashik by not only increasing the green cover of the city but also providing livelihood to thousands of people involved with the winery and its resorts. It is also cultivating additional land across Maharashtra and Karnataka, to boost the agriculture sector. Additionally, the company also planted 75 native trees on World Environment Day (June 5, 2020) by a plantation drive with villagers from Savargaon.

In November 2017, Sula launched their first premium wine from their Karnataka vineyards aptly named Kādu which is India’s first wine for a cause. Supporting tiger conservation with every bottle sold, it was also launched in Maharashtra recently. Leading the innovation story, in February 2020, Sula Vineyards has also launched India’s first wine in a can-Dia Wine Sparkler, packed in a convenient and attractive can. This bubbly, and refreshing drink needs no mixers, corkscrews, or swirling to enjoy; it is easy to carry and crack open straight from the fridge. Founder and CEO of Sula Vineyards, Rajeev Samant firmly believes in being a steward of the land and in sustainable business practices. Under his guidance, Sula is one of the most sustainable wineries in the world with more than half its energy coming from solar energy. From packaging that is 99 per cent recyclable to reusing and providing clean drinking water to people in the area. ’We believe in making wine keeping the future in mind. Businesses must realize the responsibility towards the environment and we take the full onus of our practices. Climate change is affecting everyone and it calls for immediate actions.  Our journey towards a greener future will include many more tree plantation drives, more solar energy, and reduced water consumption, etc.,’ says Rajeev Samant.
