Ghugus Air Most Toxic in Maharashtra

The air in Ghugus, a small town in Chandrapur district, has emerged to be the most toxic in Maharashtra, reveals a fresh scientific study. According to ‘The Air Quality Status of Maharashtra’ (2018-19) prepared by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), the annual average level of respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM) in Ghugus (2018-19) are 181 micrograms per cubic meter (mpcm). This is nearly three times higher than the prescribed limit set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Known to be the deadliest pollutant, RSPM can get embedded deep in the lungs causing premature deaths and a wide range of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
