Singapore Earmarks $22.6 Million for Tech Development in Water Treatment

Singapore has called on the tech industry to pitch for $22.6 million worth of grants aimed at enhancing the country's water treatment processes and operations. The national water agency PUB has three Requests for Proposals, inviting technology providers and researchers to develop applications that would help ensure water sustainability. Water demand was projected to double by 2060, when non-domestic sector would account for 70 per cent of overall demand. By then, energy-intensive sources such as its recycling system NEWater and desalinated water would generate up to 85 per cent of Singapore's water needs. Five NEWater plants currently supplied up to 40 per cent of Singapore's current water needs, which would rise to 55 per cent by 2060.
