Action Against Those Violating Sound Pollution Norms in Kerala |
District Collector Biju Prabhakar has warned of strict action against those who violate sound pollution norms after obtaining licence from the police to use loudspeakers. In an official release, Mr Prabhakar said directives to act against such persons had been issued following complaints from students preparing for examinations, critically ill persons, and the elderly who were suffering owing to uncontrolled noise pollution in their surroundings.

Despite restrictions on growing BT Cotton (Bacillus thuringiensis) in Udaipur, mass cultivation of the crop has been reported at various tribal dominant tehsils in Udaipur adjoining Gujarat. BT Cotton is a genetically modified (GM) variety of cotton which produces an insecticide that has been restricted for cultivation in the state due to harmful effects such as causing skin diseases and allergies in farmers producing it.
